Frequently Asked Questions

We are a small operation. We rely on word of mouth/referrals and only take on projects we are confident will fit into our schedule. We get very invested in our customers’ projects. This means we do not have the time to run around to everyone who finds us with a google search in order to give them a third quote…usually after other contractors refused to list project scope with inclusions and exclusions. We figure if you found us, you have talked to other people about your project and they told you about us because they think we would be a good match. We trust our customers, so for us, a referral is the best place for us to start working from.

We do all finish carpentry in house with Heimat employees. Outside of carpentry, we work together with tile, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical subcontractors we have been working with for years. Sometimes if we cannot contribute anything meaningful to a project, we will put you directly in touch with one of our trusted subs.

Contact can begin whenever. Reach out, let us know what your general ideas are, and we’ll see how we can help. We have gone into homes while they are under contract or on a second showing (both are dependent on whether the seller allows this, so this is not always or often an option) to prep plans so the home can be renovated ASAP before move in. We also have come in after other contractors have failed in one way or another or abandoned the project. Some of the timing to start a project will depend on lead time for custom cabinetry, tile, or fixtures, or simply when we will be able to fit your project into the schedule.
But…getting on the list early means that if one customer has to push their project back a few months because a hip replacement surgery opening popped up (it has happened) we can offer their spot to someone who already has worked with us to set selections and fine tune the budget. This means we can move their project up by a few months if they are interested.

That’s understandable, but we’re pretty sure we will help alleviate that fear when you experience how we approach and discuss finances and budget as part of the process. Certain line items we cannot change, and others are flexible depending on your style, budget, and desired features.
Constraints are good, they help to direct discussions about what you value in a space and what can be eliminated or what needs to remain in the plan. We’ve always tracked costs so our pricing is dialed in. We will help you find ways to save money or help you locate the products you want to splurge on, but we don’t discount the price without a change of scope. This helps us work together on the budget by having open discussions about cost vs benefit. The sooner you know how much you would like to spend on a renovation, the sooner both of us will know if Heimat is a good fit and you want to get on the schedule. You might also figure out that you definitely want to work together, but you want more time to save up for an expensive feature that is important to you and you don’t want to leave it out of the design.

We help find finishes you might not know exist or fixtures that you end up designing a room around because you love them. Sebastian has a degree in Interior Architecture and Amanda has a Bachelor of Architecture degree. We are excited when customers are open to adding some personality, and we would love to help you create a style in your new space that feels like home.
Already working with a designer and just need someone to make it reality? We are more than happy to collaborate with an architect, interior designer, or decorator that you are working with.

We like working with good people. There are going to be unexpected issues that pop up during a renovation and we will need to work as a team to get your project completed. We trust and respect our customers and expect the same from them. If that seems reasonable, we’d love to hear from you and see how we can help!
